Delivering the highest random read performance of 270,000 IOPS with 12Gbit/s SAS interface
IRVINE, Calif., August 03, 2015— The Storage Products Business Unit of Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc., a committed technology leader, today announced its next generation of enterprise solid state drives (eSSDs) for the PX Series. The new PX04S line features four serial-attached small computer system interface (SCSI) SAS eSSD models well-suited for enterprise applications including: mail servers; database servers; virtualized enterprise file servers; and primary storage in read, write or mixed workload environments. Continuing Toshiba's legacy of quality and reliability, the dual-ported 12Gbit/s1 SAS PX04S Series offers impressive random 4K performance with read IOPS up to 270K and write IOPS up to 125K.
This is Toshiba's first 12Gbit/s SAS SSD to deliver 3.84TB2 of operating capacity.
The PX04S line features four eSSD models – PX04SHB, PX04SMB, PX04SVB and PX04SRB – each offering a range of capacities and optimized for different applications and workloads:
The PX04S Series is available in the 2.5-inch/15mm form factor for alignment with enterprise server and storage arrays. In addition to power-loss protection and full data path protection, each model is available as a self-encrypting drive (SED TCG compliance ) with instant secure erase and supports pin-3 power disable for improved enclosure services control over storage media. The PX04S Series features customer-tunable power and performance allowing optimization for power efficiency or maximum performance. The PX04S Series SAS SSDs are backed by Toshiba's limited five-year warranty4.
Toshiba's integrated SSD design and manufacturing capability ensure that key components of the SSD, including NAND flash, are designed by Toshiba, leveraging Toshiba's vertical integration and leadership strengths in the growing SSD market. Component and design commonality also potentially reduces qualification time for Toshiba customers and reflects Toshiba's collaborative approach to SSD design and manufacturing.
"This is our third generation of SAS SSDs and our second with 12Gbit/s. The new PX04S Series leverages years of Toshiba innovation and vertical integration. The result is an SSD architecture designed and optimized for the next-generation of virtualized enterprise and hyperscale data centers,” said Cameron Brett, director of SSD product marketing at Toshiba Storage Products Business Unit.
"Enterprise customers need storage solutions that are optimized for different applications and workloads,” said Jeff Janukowicz, Research Director for Solid State Drives and Enabling Technologies at IDC. "SAS SSDs, such as Toshiba’s PX04S Series, that provide the ability to manage power and performance allow customers to better manage their storage environment and deliver the flexibility to meet ever changing service-level agreements."
"Supermicro offers a broad range of SAS3 12Gbit/s optimized server and storage platforms and combined with Toshiba's new 2.5-inch PX04S Series eSSDs, our customers benefit from the latest innovations in high performance storage," said Don Clegg, Vice President of Marketing andBusiness Development, Supermicro. "Our latest 4U 90x top-load, hot-swap JBOD solution (SC946ED-R2KJBOD), when fully populated with Toshiba PX04S Series eSSDs, provides customers with high-performance, high-availability storage available for the most data-intensive, mission critical applications and workloads."
Samples of the PX04S Series are available now and will be on display next week at Flash Memory Summit in San Jose, Calif. in Toshiba's booth #407. 1Read and write speed may vary depending on the host device, read and write conditions, and file size.
2Definition of capacity: Toshiba defines a megabyte (MB) as 1,000,000 bytes, a gigabyte (GB) as 1,000,000,000 bytes and a terabyte (TB) as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. A computer operating system, however, reports storage capacity using powers of 2 for the definition of 1GB = 2³°= 1,073,741,824 bytes and therefore shows less storage capacity. Available storage capacity (including examples of various media files) will vary based on file size, formatting, settings, software and operating system, such as Microsoft Operating System and/or pre-installed software applications, or media content. Actual formatted capacity may vary.
3DWPD: Drive Write Per Day. One full drive write per day means the drive can be written and re-written to full capacity once a day every day for five years, the stated product warranty period. Actual results may vary due to system configuration, usage and other factors.
