Capacity of an elephant
The elephant is the largest animal that lives on land. Mainly feeding on grass and leaves, this animal eats 200 to 300 kilograms of food and drinks 100 to 300 liters of water every day. Some species of elephants grow to be six to seven meters long and weigh as much as 10 tons. Despite its huge body, the elephant is capable of running at a speed of 40 kilometers per hour.
The world's first 14TB hard disk drive with CMR[Helium-sealed design and innovative 9- platters]
Toshiba continues its long history of advancing its leading-edge Japanese technology, delivering the world’s first※1 3.5-inch※2 14TB※3 HDD using Conventional Magnetic Recording (CMR), which incorporates an industry leading 9-platter mechanical design. The Toshiba 14TB HDD offers major improvements in enterprise storage capacity, reducing data center footprint and the total cost of ownership.
※1 As of December 2017, based on a survey by Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corp.
※2 "3.5-inch" denotes the form factor of the HDDs. They do not indicate the drive's physical size.
※3 Definition of capacity: A terabyte (TB) is 1,000,000,000,000 bytes.
Ability to adapt like a chameleon
Chameleons change their body color according to the surrounding objects and changes in the environment. They live in different kinds of places - tropical and temperate rainforests, savannas, deserts, etc. By adapting to the environment that keeps changing, chameleons have acquired the ability to survive anywhere.
MOSFETs featuring the power-saving, high-performance U-MOSIX-H chip[MOSFET U-MOSIX-H series]
Reductions have been achieved for all three major causes of energy loss (compared with our previous model; products whose drain-source voltage (VDSS) is 100 V).
- ① 17% improvement in the drive loss index ［ RDS（ON）※1・Qg※2 ］
- ② 19% improvement in the switching loss index［ RDS（ON）・Qsw※3 ］
- ③ 14% improvement in the output charge loss index［ RDS（ON）・Qoss※4 ］
※1 RDS（ON）:Drain-source on-resistance ※2 Qg:Total gate charge ※3 Qsw:Gate switch charge ※4 Qoss:Output charge

Energy saving ability comparable to that of a camel
The most noticeable characteristic of a camel is the hump on its back. The hump helps the camel use energy efficiently. It is said that it not only stores energy in case food becomes scarce but acts as an insulator preventing the body temperature from rising due to sunlight.
Our unique technology offers higher efficiency,
lower noise and shorter development time.
Motor control technology InPAC (Intelligent Phase Control)
The InPAC capability, coupled with conventional core technology, offers higher efficiency, lower noise and shorter development time.
The solution contributes to the development of a variety of products including air conditioner indoor and outdoor units and server fans.
Intelligent like a dolphin
Dolphins are said to be most similar to humans in terms of the proportion of brain size to body size. Having a superb memory, the ability to recognize themselves and skills to communicate by using sounds, they are considered one of the most intelligent animal species on earth.
Our LSI technology contributes to the spread of IoT.
We provide custom LSI development solutions tailored to the needs of customers in diverse fields where the spread of IoT is advancing rapidly, including data centers, networks and industrial equipment.
To reduce the workload of development on the part of the customer, we propose Easy Prototyping for the entire process from FPGA to custom LSI development, as well as CPU and IP subsystems that are used in many system LSI products.
What's more, two custom LSI development solutions are available: advanced ASIC technology that supports development efforts from the concept phase onward and FFSA technology that enables customization with only a few metal layers.
