Electric power is used for "operation of compressor motors of outdoor units" and "drive of fan motors" of air conditioners. Both the fan motors installed in both the indoor and outdoor units will continue to rotate while the air conditioner is running, so this cannot be stopped. It is often believed that larger air conditioners use more power, but because the power of air conditioners depends on how much the compressor motors and fan motors drive for air conditioning, if air conditioning is performed at once in a short time with a large air conditioner and stopped for a long time, it may be kept cheaper than the electricity cost of air conditioning with a small air conditioner for a long time. What is important for controlling the power supply of air conditioners is how to supply power efficiently inside the system during power use, and how to suppress the heat generated during power use.
For AC-DC power supply circuit, a MOSFET with high breakdown voltage and low on-resistance is suitable. By keeping the on-resistance low, heat generation and current consumption can be minimized, and output loss can also be reduced. Toshiba's Power MOSFET Series uses high heat dissipation packages to further reduce heat generation. In addition, modules such as sensitive sensors and chipsets may have higher performance requirements for the power supply, even in the power control from the power supply circuit to the latter stage. Toshiba's LDO regulators realize high performance with minimal current consumption, contributing to lower total system power consumption.
Transistor output photocouplers are used for voltage-feedback to the primary side in DC-DC power supply circuit. Signal transmission at different potentials is required on the primary and secondary sides, and signal path isolation can be realized simply and reliably by using optical coupling type photocouplers. In addition, it is important to comply with the safety standards established in each country. Toshiba Photocouplers have been approved by UL1577VDE:EN60747-5-5, EN62368-1,etc.
Toshiba has provided the Switched Mode Power Supply Library to support power supply designs such as DC-DC power supply. In addition, the Reference Design Center publishes examples of the design of various power supply circuits, providing design ideas for high efficiency in various power supply circuits. Both of them can be used free of charge, so please use them as a help in designing the power supply.
Switched Mode Power Supply Library
Easily select the optimal circuit and MOSFETs. Downloads circuit data that can be used in OrCAD®, LTspice® environments.
Reference Design Center
Releasing various reference designs that can be used for end equipment.
By using a MOSFET with low on-resistance and high heat dissipation efficiency as a driver, a set with low heat generation and low power consumption can be realized.
