The figure below shows the simplified port structure. When you select the function to use, signal flow will be displayed.

Initial

  • PxCR(output control)=0 : The port becomes high impedance since the output buffer is turned off.
  • PxIE(input control)=0 : The value of the PxDATA is read when the port data is read, because the output latch is selected by the input selector.

Input Port
  • PxCR(output control)=0 : The output buffer is turned off.
  • PxIE(input control)=1 : The pin value is read since the pin state is selected by the input selector.

Input Port (Pull-up)
  • PxCR(output control)=0 : The output buffer is turned off.
  • PxPUP(pull-up control)=1 : The pin is connected to the pull-up resistor.
  • PxIE(input control)=1 : The pin value is read since the pin state is selected by the input selector.

Input Port (Pull-down)
  • PxCR(output control)=0 : The output buffer is turned off.
  • PxPDN(pull-down control)=1 : The pin is connected to the pull-down resistor.
  • PxIE(input control)=1 : The pin value is read since the pin state is selected by the input selector.

Output Port
  • PxFRn(function control)=0 : The output latch is selected by the output selector.
  • PxCR(output control)=1 : The output buffer is turned on and outputs the data to the pin.
  • PxIE(input control)=0 : The value of the PxDATA is read when the port data is read, because the output latch is selected by the input selector.

Output Port (Open-drain)
  • PxFRn(function control)=0 : The output latch is selected by the output selector.
  • PxCR(output control)=1 : The output buffer is turned on and outputs the data to the pin.
  • PxOD(open-drain control)=1 : Since the output buffer is turned off in the side of "1", when "1" is output, the output buffer becomes high impedance.
  • PxIE(input control)=0 : The value of the PxDATA is read when the port data is read, because the output latch is selected by the input selector.

Input / Output Port
  • PxFRn(function control)=0 : The output latch is selected by the output selector.
  • PxCR(output control)=1 : The output buffer is turned on and outputs the data to the pin.
  • PxIE(input control)=1 : The pin value is read since the pin state is selected by the input selector.
* As described in "How to set the ports", you can also set the open drain control to be on and the pull-up control to be on.

Function Output
  • PxFRn(function control)=1 : The function output is selected by the output selector.
  • PxCR(output control)=1 : The output buffer is turned on and outputs the data to the pin.
  • PxIE(input control)=0 : The function output value is read when reading the port, since the function output is selected by the input selector.

Function Input
  • PxCR(output control)=0 : The output buffer is turned off.
  • PxIE(input control)=1 : The pin value is read since the pin state is selected by the input selector.
  • PxFRn(function control)=1 : The function input is enabled.
