Function explanation


  • The TMPM369FDFG contains 8 channels of 16-bit timers and the event counter (TMRB).
  • The 16-bit timer and event counter count up internal clocks or external pin signals with the 16-bit up-counter. If the value coincide with the timer register 0 or 1, the interrupt is issued.
  • Periodic interrupt can be issued by timer match interrupt with the internal clock.
  • Value of the 16-bit up-counter is fetched into the capture register according to the signal change of the external pins. Then the pulse width of the external signals can be measured.
  • Flip-flop connected to the external pin is built-in and pulses, such as PWM and PPG, are output by reversing flip-flop for each interrupt.

Operation overview

  • A clock is obtained by dividing ΦT0 output from part of the system clock, or the external clock is used as the basic clock.
  • The count clock is counted up with the 16-bit up-counter.
  • When the setting value of the timer register 0 or 1 is matched to the value of the 16-bit up-counter, an interrupt is issued.
  • If the Timer Flip-flop control is permitted at the time of the interrupt, the pulse is output by reversing the Flip-flop.
  • Values of 16-bit up-counter can be taken by the external signals or the software instruction.

Operation mode

Operation settings of 16-bit timer and event counter are controlled by two or more registers. The following operations can be performed by the combination.

  • 16-bit interval timer mode 
    A periodical interrupt is generated using the internal clock.
  • 16-bit event counter mode 
    Number of pulses is counted with the external clock (TBxIN pin).
  • 16-bit programmable pulse generation mode 
    Square waves with any frequency and any duty (programmable square waves) can be output.
  • Timer synchronous mode 
    Four channels of timers can be started simultaneously. A maximum of four signals can be synchronized and output by combining them with PPG output.
  • External trigger count start mode 
    The timer can be started by the external signal.
