Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation ("Toshiba ") has launched eight 30 V/40 V Schottky Barrier Diodes (SBD): “CUHSxxF40”, “CUHSxxF30”, “CUHSxxS40” and “CUHSxxS30” which are suitable for voltage boosting circuits to drive LCD backlights of mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets and laptop PCs, expanding the lineup.

Typically, DC-DC boost converter ICs are used in voltage-boosting circuits for driving backlight LEDs, and the drive voltage needs to be boosted to around 25 V; the SBDs used for the boost converter circuits are sometimes configured as external components instead of being incorporated in the ICs.
Specifically, the new product CUHS20F40, which aims to satisfy both forward voltage and reverse current requirements, features a typical forward voltage of 0.39 V[1], an approximate 35 % reduction of the forward-voltage compared with the conventional product CUS10F40; CUHS20S40 features a typical forward voltage of 0.32 V[1], contributing to the improvement of power efficiency by further reducing the forward voltage compared with CUHS20F40.

As SBDs used for boost converters require different device characteristics depending on the output voltage, output current, and operating frequencies, it is important to select appropriate SBDs for the circuit conditions.
The new products include a low forward-voltage type satisfying both the forward voltage and reverse current requirements and an ultra low forward voltage type that has further reduced the forward voltage, offering products suitable for SBDs used as external components for boost converter ICs to drive backlight LEDs.

By using the US2H package (package code: SOD-323HE) which is compact (typical 2.5×1.4×0.6 mm) and features a low thermal resistance[2], the new products can meet the market requirements such as smaller and thinner mobile devices without degrading performance.
