Impact of Earthquakes in the Tohoku Area on Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corp. Group Operations

Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation has responded to the major earthquakes that occurred off the coast of Tohoku Area on March 16 by establishing an emergency task force at its headquarters in Kawasaki, Japan. Our first concern is the safety of our employees and their families, and beyond this the wellbeing of the local community in the affected area. We are also assessing the damage to our production facilities, and will provide updates as soon as they become available.

Status of Toshiba’s Group Company facilities in Tohoku area

1. Japan Semiconductor Inc. Headquarters and Iwate Operations (Kitakami City, Iwate Pref., Japan, Semiconductor production)

  • The safety of all of employees has been confirmed. 
  • There is no significant damage to buildings and infrastructure.
  • We suspended operation right after the earthquakes, and have been assessing the status of production lines. No significant damage to fuse quartz and other parts has been found at this moment.
  • We expect to resume partial production tonight. We will decide when to resume full-scale production once assessments of production line status are completed.
