Collection of personal information

Our Website is hosted by our headquarter in Japan. Toshiba collects your information in order to record, support and facilitate your use of this Website and to prevent unlawful use. There are certain areas of the Website where you are asked to provide us with personal information about yourself, such as when registering your details and products purchased, requesting a brochure or registering for a newsletter. When personal information is requested, website visitors are given a choice as to whether they would prefer to opt-out and for instance not receive any email from Toshiba. However, if you do not provide the registration information that we ask you to provide, you might not be able to use some of the Website services such as support services, for example. Similarly, if you choose to delete your registration information (pursuant to the mechanism set forth in "Updating your personal information") you may no longer be able to use some of the services offered on this Website.

When you use this Website, Toshiba may also collect certain information about your computer to facilitate, evaluate and verify your use of the Website and the provided services. Toshiba may log the following environmental variables: browser type, operating system, CPU speed, referring or exited web pages, click patterns and the session ID (a unique identifier assigned to the browser in connection to the Website). Toshiba only uses such information to measure traffic patterns on the Website and usage of the services provided thereon. We do not match such information with personal information held about you by Toshiba unless we have your consent, except as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy.

By using this Website you agree and acknowledge that your personal information collected through the Website or in connection with the services provided thereon may be transferred across national boundaries and collected, stored or processed by trusted agents of Toshiba within and outside the European Union such as web hosting providers, mail and email service providers and web analytic providers, to help facilitate Toshiba in providing certain functions of the Website. This does also apply to trusted third parties who are bound by contract not to use your personal information for their own purposes or provide it to any third parties.

In order to improve our services for you, we only work with trusted service providers. We ensure that the German and European safety regulations and technical standards regarding protection of your data by the service providers are met. We only work with service providers who agree by contract to guarantee observance of the German and European standards, and ensure this using standard contractual clauses pertaining to the transfer of personal information to processors established in third countries under Directive 95/46/EC of the European Parliament and Council in the respective valid version.

In order to reduce errors in our database, authenticate our users, prevent fraud and prevent abuse of this Website and the services provided thereon, we may on occasion supplement or correct the personal information you submit to us and your Internet Protocol (IP) address with information in our other databases or information from third-party sources.

Toshiba may also collect non-identifying statistical information to improve the Website and services, and provide users with a better experience. This information can also be used for statistical analyses.

Certain services may require you to use the most current version of such service. These services may also be offered in conjunction with other services, which you may or may not have already downloaded. Toshiba may automatically check to determine if you are using the most current version or possess the required other services. Toshiba can inform you by way of e-mail messages, pop-up boxes or similar mechanisms as to whether you need to upgrade, in order to use the service you have requested. During this process, an IP address identifying your computer and the product and service version may be sent to a web server. System profile information is not transmitted, however, nor are cookies used to store information.

Protection of your personal information

Except in the particular circumstances described in this Privacy Policy, Toshiba will not provide your personal information to other companies or organizations without your explicit consent. However, Toshiba may divulge your personal information when required by law, regulation, or litigation.

Your personal information collected on this Website resides on secure servers that only selected Toshiba personnel and contractors have access to via password.

Please note that any information you post to a guestbook, public bulletin board, blog or chat room which may be offered by Toshiba on this Website as an additional service, is available to all persons accessing this service. Your e-mail address and other personal information or content you might upload may also be publicly posted on such sites. The information you share, including your email address, would then be available to all persons accessing such community sites and such information may be read, collected or used by others for any purpose, including sending you unsolicited messages. Toshiba is not responsible for any information you elect to publicly submit on the Website or the use of such information by third parties.

Tracking, use of cookies, Adobe analytics, web beacons and similar tools

In order to improve the Website and the services provided thereon and to provide more convenient, relevant experiences to our customers, we and our agents may use "cookies", "web beacons" and similar devices to track your activities, e.g. the analytics service Adobe Analytics provided by Adobe Systems Software Ireland Ltd. A cookie is a small amount of data that is transferred to your browser by a web server and can only be read by the server that gave it to you. A cookie functions as your identification card and enables Toshiba to record your passwords and preferences. A cookie cannot be executed as code or deliver viruses. A web beacon is a small transparent .gif image that is embedded in an HTML page or email used to track when the page or email has been viewed. A similar tool may be used that may send data to a server when a set of user-initiated events occur such as for instance when the "Add to Cart" button is clicked. This tool is similar to a cookie. It tracks your visit and the data can only be read by the server that receives the data. It is different than a cookie in that it is not browser-based, may not function as an identification card and does not store any data on your computer.

While Toshiba uses cookies and similar tools to track your use of the Website and the services provided thereon and web servers automatically log the IP/Internet address of your computer, Toshiba does not generally use this information to identify you personally. Exceptions to this are noted in this Privacy Policy. If you expressly provide consent for the Website and/or services provided thereon to "remember" the unique identifier that you select when you register for various activities on the Website or service, that unique identifier will be stored as a persistent cookie on your computer and that unique identifier will be linked to your registration information. As a result, your navigation path around the Website and the services provided thereon will be tracked in identifiable form. Most browsers are initially set to accept cookies, and most services that include similar devices are typically initially activated to collect data. You can set your browser to notify you when you receive a cookie. This gives you the chance to decide whether or not to accept it. (Cookies are obligatory for some web pages that require authorization. Users choosing not to accept cookies or similar tools will probably not be able to access those pages or the related products and/or services.) Information about non-cookie tracking devices and their features, including disabling options, are contained in the information materials provided with such services or on website pages relating to such services.

We use Google AdWords Remarketing to advertise Toshiba across the internet, in particular Google Display Network. AdWords remarketing will display ads to you based on what parts of the Toshiba website you visited. To achieve this, the Website places a cookie in your web browser. This cookie does not in any way identify you or give access to your computer or mobile device.

The cookie is only used to indicate the following to other websites: “This person visited a particular page, so show them ads relating to that page.”

Google AdWords Remarketing allows us to tailor our marketing to better suit your needs and only display ads that are relevant to you.

If you do not wish to see ads from TOSHIBA, you can opt out in the following ways:

Disable "Ads Personalization" in Google’s Ads Settings.

Opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies by visiting the Network Advertising Initiative's opt-out page.
