Toshiba introduces 40V / 2.0A constant-current stepper motor driver IC

Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH (“Toshiba”) announces the launch of the TB67S531FTG, a constant-current, two-phase bipolar stepper motor driver IC. The device delivers stable and reliable motor control especially in electrically noisy industrial environments. Intended applications include industrial, commercial, and office equipment including sewing machines, surveillance cameras, printers, and scanners.

The TB67S531FTG features a phase input interface that controls motor current in each phase. This approach minimises unintended step transitions and helps prevent motor step-out when operating in electrically noisy environments.

Rated for motor output voltages of up to 40V and currents of up to 2.0A, the device supports robust motor drive capability. Its low on-resistance (RDS(ON)) of 0.8Ω (typ.) reduces heat generation, enhancing system efficiency and thermal performance. To simplify system design and reduce component count, the TB67S531FTG integrates key functions, including a current detection circuit for constant-current control and a charge pump circuit for driving the H-bridge output stage. It is housed in a compact 5.0mm x 5.0mm QFN32 package.

The device supports multiple excitation modes, from full-step to quarter-step, enabling flexible motor control based on application requirements. In addition, built-in protection features such as thermal shutdown, over-current detection, and under-voltage lockout enhance system safety and reliability.

Toshiba continues to expand its motor driver portfolio to support a wide range of industrial applications, helping engineers reduce design complexity, improve system robustness, and accelerate product development.
