Our semiconductor business embodies Toshiba Group’s Basic Commitment, “Committed to People, Committed to the Future.” By advancing research and development within Toshiba Group and with our partners, we provide our customers worldwide with innovative semiconductor products and services, and aim to contribute to solutions to carbon neutrality and other global issues.

We focus on developing high-performance semiconductors that support our digital world, with power semiconductors at the core, an essential solution for cutting energy consumption. Our efforts include pursuing new levels of performance that bring us ever close to the ultimate in silicon devices, advancing progress in high-performance wide-bandgap semiconductors, and bringing digital transformation to the production technology on our 300-milimeter wafer fabrication lines.

In isolators and small-signal semiconductors, we continue to enhance our distinctive and winning technologies—which is why our photocouplers have secured the world’s leading market share for 14 consecutive years*1. In integrated circuits, we develop motor control drivers that deploy advanced control technologies, fully utilizing the fusion of digital and analog techniques.

We continue to create solutions that meet customers’ needs by bringing cutting-edge simulation technologies into product development. But at the same time, we know that there is only one true source of innovation: people. Through participation in open innovation and collaborations with partners, we are fostering inventive engineers who can bring together different strands of expertise and apply them to their own work. Driven by a passion for exploration, our engineers relish challenges. Through their growth and capabilities, and their continuous refinement of semiconductor technology, we contribute to unending innovation, the evolution of the digital economy, and the realization of carbon neutrality.

We are honored to serve you.

When Toshiba entered the hard disk drive (HDD) business in 1967, the HDD was still external storage for computers. Our business domain grew over the years to cover many, many kinds of storage products, including the main storage of notebook PCs, portable music players, video recorders, and external data storage. Today, the HDD is the core storage solution in the data centers that support cloud computing. In that ever-growing market, we concentrate on nearline HDDs.

In the nearly 60 years we have been in the business, product storage capacity has grown 7-millionfold, and the data recording density of the recording medium 100-millionfold. The fundamentals of the HDD as a device remains unchanged: magnetic disks store data that are written and read by magnetic heads. But many and various advanced technologies have been integrated into HDD to win continual increases in data recording density. Today’s HDD is a highly advanced integration product that incorporates diverse state-of-the-art technologies.

Examples that soon come to mind include fine position control, magnetic head-disk gap control, and the application of spintronics to magnetic material development, all of which rely on nanometer-scale ultra-precision technology. There is also the use of advanced signal processing technology and error correction technology to reduce data error rates. We realize these innovations by drawing on advances in numerous fields, including electronics, communications, mechatronics, chemistry, and product hardware and firmware development.

Storage products are essential components of the infrastructure that supports IT, and its continuous growth thorough cloud computing and artificial intelligence.

Through technological innovation, we are dedicated to shaping a future of deep interconnections between information and people.
