Community Symbiosis Activities

We picked up trash in parking lots and commuting routes used by employees, and separated and disposed of the trash we picked up.

We participated in the "community development full of flowers" organized by Asahikawa City.

Asahikawa City awarded us a certificate of excellence for waste reduction in fiscal 2022, and we have continued to be certified as a gold company.

As an opportunity to encourage people to think about the impact on the ecosystem and the problem of microplastics, a cleanup activity was conducted on the premises and around the operations. The total amount of trash picked up was 37.5 kg.

In November, Nomi City, where our company is located, registered us with a system for individuals, companies, and organizations to work toward the creation of sustainable communities and societies that incorporate the SDGs. In the December meeting, we presented a case study of our activities.

To reduce waste emissions and raise environmental awareness, five employees visited an industrial waste contractor that disposes of fluorescent lamps.
After observing how fluorescent lamps are disposed of and recycled products, an information exchange session on waste materials was held.

As a CSR activity that could be implemented in a non-face-to-face, a "walking activity" was implemented with the goal of having the 39 participants walk at least 126,000 steps per person for three weeks, aiming not only to improve their health but also to curb excessive use of cars and elevators. As a result, they walked 6,989,696 steps. This far exceeded the 39 employees' target of "4,914,000 steps," and contributed to a reduction of approximately 1,181.26 kg (in-house calculation) of CO2 emissions. In addition, 2.31 million won was donated according to the number of steps taken.

Calling it "Zero Garbage Day," a cleanup activity was held on the premises and around our operations as an opportunity for people to think about the impact on the ecosystem and the microplastic problem. A total of 851 participants (including resident companies) collected 5 120-liter trash bags.

We collected 619 surplus food items from our each household and had them delivered to "children's cafeterias" and "welfare facilities" through "Food Bank Oita" to contribute to food loss and the community.

We send out useful environmental and other information to all of our employees once a month.

Cleanup activities were carried out around our operations, urban areas, parks, and their own residential areas. A total of 411 employees and their family members participated in this activity.

We attended the meeting as members of the "Kitakami Eco Network Promotion Conference" organized by Kitakami City. We exchanged opinions and information with elected members from various fields and Kitakami City (secretariat) regarding the promotion of the Kitakami City Environmental Basic Plan, and reflected the results in the city's environmental administration.

As a member of the "Iwate Prefecture Environmental Conservation Liaison Council," We attended the general meeting. In addition to attending two board meetings as an auditor, we also conduct operational and accounting audits.

Books and other items that employees had finished reading at home were collected within the company. The three cardboard boxes of books collected were sold and donated to welfare activities in Yokohama City, including childcare support, support for the elderly, and support for the disabled.

We collected caps of PET bottles that had been finished drinking and sent them to a non-profit organization. The collected bottle caps were used to purchase vaccines for children in developing countries.

Lighting in the office was turned off every day during lunch break, contributing to energy conservation.

During Environment Month (June) and 3R Promotion Month (October), we placed an awareness flag at the main gate of the plant to raise environmental awareness among employees.

As part of the "Stork Project" to promote environmental improvement in the Republic of Serbia, we accepted six officials from the University of Belgrade, the city of Panchevo, and other cities in the Republic of Serbia to explain our operations's environmental activities and tour and train at the wastewater treatment facility.

Aiming to reuse resources, a mini flea market activity was held in the office. Employees brought in books they no longer needed and exchanged them with each other. Twenty employees participated in this activity.

Aiming to recycle resources, we collected unwanted books from employees and donated them to economically needy areas. Seven employees participated in this activity and 66 books were collected.

A trash pickup activity was held at BijiaShan Park to raise environmental awareness among employees. A total of 50 employees participated in this activity.

Aiming to recycle resources, we collected old clothes from employees and donated them to economically needy areas. Ten employees participated in this activity.

Aiming to raise employees' awareness of the need to protect biodiversity, we conducted a field trip to an aquarium that is closely related to biodiversity. A total of 59 employees participated in this activity.

We delivered classes on semiconductors to 6th graders and classes on waste-related education to 4th graders at a nearby elementary school. In the semiconductor field, the history, mechanism, and role of semiconductors; in the waste field, education was provided on the garbage problem, Toyomae City's approach to garbage, and the experience of throwing garbage into a packer truck.

Thirty-five fourth graders from nearby elementary schools and 20 employees participated in the event.

Employees and their families participated in beach cleanup activity. Approximately 71 kg of trash was collected. In addition, a donation equivalent to one pound of trash collected was given to the cleanup organization.

On December 23, 2022, we held a cleanup event in the Mongkok area to raise awareness of the urban environment among our employees. Approximately 30% of our employees participated in this activity.

In China, there is a culture of eating mooncakes during the mid-month (August-September). To raise awareness of the use of materials, we organized a program to reduce the amount of packaging (metal and plastic) used to wrap mooncakes. Approximately 30% of our employees participated in this activity.

To raise awareness of the use of materials, we held an activity to collect and donate unwanted home appliances and other items from each household. Approximately 20% of our employees participated in this activity.

116 employees of Toshiba Electronics Taiwan, Inc. participated in a charity bazaar held from November 21 to 25, 2022, bringing items for the bazaar. This activity raised TWD 20,000, which was donated to the Taiwan Children and Families Fund.

A quiz show was held to help employees better understand and recognize the Environmental Management System (EMS) procedures and operational management.

Aiming to raise employees' awareness of environmental issues, we held a contest for ideas for environmental initiatives in each household.

Aiming to raise employees' awareness of energy conservation, a contest was held to introduce energy and water conservation efforts at home.

A photo contest was held to capture the beauty of the earth, including nature and living creatures, through photographs reflecting the beauty of the earth's environment and local symbiotic society, with the aim of raising the importance of environmental activities.

A total of 1,062 cloth and paper bags no longer needed by employees were collected and donated to a local hospital. These bags will be used for receiving and delivering medications.

In an effort to reduce waste and promote the 3Rs, we donated calendars no longer needed by our employees to the "Education and Technology Center for the Blind". This activity has been ongoing since 2014, and a total of 2,764 calendars have been donated so far.

To raise employee awareness and promote 3Rs Collected aluminum pull tabs and used staples from employees and donated them to the International Association for the Disabled In fiscal 2022, 7.4 kg of aluminum and 26.2 kg of staples were collected; from fiscal 2016 to date, 41 kg of aluminum and 94.6 kg of staples have been donated The company is also working to improve the quality of its products.

Employees and their families were encouraged to turn off non-essential lights at home for one hour. This activity saved a total of 0.65 kWh of energy for the entire company and contributed to a reduction of 0.00033 kg of carbon dioxide emissions.

As part of Toshiba Semiconductor (Thailand)'s CSR activities for local residents, employees provided environmental education at the nearby Srimahaphot School. This is the first environmental education program of its kind for our history. The environmental education was conducted face-to-face with students at the school, where they learned about our energy conservation and environmental initiatives through lessons on the themes of global warming and waste reduction, including the 3Rs (reuse, reduce, recycle), using video materials as well. The students also participated in a workshop to make eco-bags out of old T-shirts. We will continue to conduct environmental awareness activities and foster relationships with local residents.
