IRVINE, Calif. — Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc., a committed technology leader, announces the MD06ACA-V, the latest addition to its SV Series line-up of 3.5-inch hard drives for surveillance applications.  The new models are available in capacities up to 10TB1 with higher transfer rate compare with previous generations, and can support up to 64 cameras2 operating 24/7. These key benefits are the ability to support higher resolution camera streams.

The MD06ACA-V Series is designed for streaming operation scenarios, and typically used for surveillance digital video recorders (SDVR), surveillance network video recorders (SNVR) and Hybrid SDVR. Compared to previous generations, it features a 7,200 rpm higher access performance, and a 58 percent increase in the maximum sustained transfer rate, pushing it to 237MiB/s3. Available in 6TB, 8TB and 10TB capacities, the new drive models provide a SATA 6Gbit/s interface4, with a 256MiB dynamic buffer. Additionally, the MD06ACA-V models support Advanced Format (512e) technology for compatibility with legacy applications and operating environments.

“Our third generation surveillance HDD line-up provides the capacity, performance and reliability needed for today’s higher resolution surveillance video streams and longer content retention requirements,” said Scott Wright, Director of HDD Product Marketing at Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. “The new Toshiba models include RV compensation technology for optimal performance in multi-bay configurations, and provide excellent reliability with a mean time to failure (MTTF)5 of 1 million hours utilizing a conventional mechanical design.”

Samples of the MD06ACA-V Series are now available. For more information on the full line of Toshiba HDD products, please visit: http://toshiba.semicon-storage.com/us/product/storage-products.html. 1We define a megabyte (MB) as 1,000,000 bytes, a gigabyte (GB) as 1,000,000,000 bytes and a terabyte (TB) as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. A computer operating system, however, reports storage capacity using powers of 2 for the definition of 1GB = 230 = 1,073,741,824 bytes and therefore shows less storage capacity. Available storage capacity (including examples of various media files) will vary based on file size, formatting, settings, software and operating system and/or pre-installed software applications, or media content. Actual formatted capacity may vary.
2Number of surveillance cameras support capability is defined by performance simulation with High Definition cameras at 10Mbit/s rate. Actual results may vary based on various factors, including the types of cameras installed, the system’s hardware and software capabilities, and the video compression technology used, as well as system variables such as resolution, frames per second, and other settings.
3A mebibyte (MiB) means 220, or 1,048,576 bytes.
4Read and write speed may vary depending on the host device, read and write conditions, and file size.
5MTTF (Mean Time to Failure) is not a guarantee or estimate of product life; it is a statistical value related to mean failure rates for a large number of products which may not accurately reflect actual operation. Actual operating life of the product may be different from the MTTF.
