The continuing progress of digitization, most recently the quickening expansion of IoT and the increasing reliance on cloud-based applications and services, means that more information is being generated and stored than ever before, and that the rate of its creation only continues to increase. The data centers and cloud-services-providers that use this data constantly require higher-capacity, higher-performance HDDs. In the client HDD market, notebook PCs and other client systems require higher capacity for recording high resolution images, video data and other creative content. In addition, today’s surveillance systems deploy more and higher definition cameras and store image data for longer periods in order to improve security. The latest surveillance systems offer live monitoring and streaming from networked cameras in remote locations. These image-heavy services require HDDs offering higher capacities and higher performance.
