The dropout voltage is a value indicating the voltage drop of the output voltage with respect to the input voltage. If this value is large, it leads to an increase in power consumption. Toshiba LDO regulators achieve superior dropout voltage characteristics by using a wide range of two-power-supply LDO products employing a new-generation process. Therefore, since the desired output voltage can be obtained at a lower input voltage than that of conventional products, the power consumption can be reduced by the voltage difference loss.
Toshiba’s TCR15AG series of LDO regulators uses an N-channel MOSFET with a low-RON, and operates with two sources of bias voltage in addition to the input voltage. As a result, this series realizes ultra-low dropout characteristics and high current that are 60% lower than those of other companies' products. This makes it possible to significantly lower input voltage and enlarge current output, thereby realizing high power supply efficiency. It is the ideal power supply with high output current and low heat generation for output voltage to the digital-core power supply and reference power supply near the 1.0 V of CMOS image sensors, MCUs, RFs, etc.
