eFuse ICs

Conventional fuses protect circuits and prevent equipment destruction by fusing the built-in alloy parts by Joule heat when a current exceeding the rated value flows. However, these fuses have disadvantages such as uncertainty of the breaking current, slow fusing time, and the need for replacement work due to destruction by a single overcurrent. Unlike conventional fuses, the eFuse IC (electronic fuse) has a high-speed current interruption function because the built-in MOSFETs are turned off when excessive current flows. In addition, it is not destroyed by a single overcurrent and can be used repeatedly. It is advantageous in that it can incorporate various protection functions such as overvoltage protection. This product is also effective in reducing maintenance costs and recovery time for repairs.

Get started with Toshiba's eFuse reference design

Protect your expensive equipment by designing in a fast and accurate eFuse. Approximately 1 million times quicker than conventional fuses and repeatedly useable, Toshiba's eFuses offer short-circuit protection in 150ns (Typ.). In contrast to conventional fuses, Toshiba's eFuse line-up offers high-performance, high-precision protective functions that are not possible with conventional fuses such as overvoltage clamping, overcurrent clamping, overheat protection, inrush current suppression (slew rate control), reverse current prevention and thermal shutdown. System documentation and safety certification is also easier as Toshiba's eFuses have achieved IEC 62368-1 Safety standard certification.
