The overcurrent protection function of the eFuse ICs is a function that clamps (holds) the output current to prevent it from exceeding the overcurrent limit (ILIMIT) when the output current increases because of abnormal loads or short-circuiting, thereby preventing instantaneous power-off and protecting the devices from degradation or breakdown due to heat generation. Toshiba eFuse ICs can be set optimally by the variable overcurrent protecting function using external resistors. Robust protection can be realized by the double overcurrent protection function in addition to the short-circuit protection function that turns on when the output current greatly exceeds the limit current in an extremely short time.
Our eFuse IC TCKE8 series have an overcurrent clamping function with high accuracy from low temperature to high temperature with respect to the overcurrent limit. The normal overcurrent protection function (circuit break) stops the output current immediately when the overcurrent limit is reached, and the output voltage drops. On the other hand, the eFuse IC clamps the current and keeps it from flowing more than the set current. By keeping the output voltage within the breakdown voltage of the post-stage IC, more stable power supply can be constructed.
