Toshiba Electronics Europe desired to answer this question recently through testing the function, performance, acoustics, and power consumptions of the PROMISE VTrack J5960 60-bay toploader JBOD. Especially since PROMISE claims a commitment to environmental protection and sustainable production, Toshiba wanted to test and evaluate the JBOD with 60 of its own 18TB Enterprise Capacity (nearline) SAS hard disks drives (HDD) from the MG09 Series.
It turns out that the PROMISE VTrak J5960 is an energy-efficient and easy-to-maintain 60-bay toploader JBOD. It comes with 300W power consumption in “idle with drives” state whereas other JBODs start at 400W. When fully stocked with Toshiba 18TB hard drives it operates at just around 500W power consumption while offering a capacity of over one PB. It comes as no surprise that PROMISE promotes this JBOD “with green DNA” inside.
