The short-circuit protection function prevents excessive current from flowing when the power supply line or load is short-circuited due to an error. Toshiba eFuse ICs employ an ultra-high-speed short-circuit protecting technique that enables current to be reduced to nearly zero within 150ns(typ.) after a short circuit occurs. This technique greatly contributes to the robust design of equipment. In addition, unlike ordinary fuses, this product is not destroyed by a single short circuit and can be used repeatedly, which is effective in reducing maintenance costs and recovery time required for repair.
The figure above shows the simulation waveforms when the voltage is suddenly shorted while the eFuse IC is supplying power of 12 V. In our eFuse IC TCKE8xx series, when the output current reaches 1.6 times the overcurrent limit (ILIMIT) (also called "Fast Trip" or "Short Trip"), the output current is judged to be short-circuited and the output current is reduced to near zero within 150ns(typ.).
