Intelligent Phase Control is Toshiba’s original motor control technology capable of saving power easily.
By automatically adjusting voltage and current phases during brushless motor operation, it eliminates complicated adjustments with software and realizes high efficiency drive.
To optimize motor efficiency, the lead angle must be adjusted using actual equipment although it is controlled based on the information on rotor positions from Hall sensors.
The lead angle must also be adjusted according to the motor constants, rpm and other factors even when a motor controller/driver has an auto lead angle control function. Therefore, there has been a need for an improved control method that reduces burdens on users.
Intelligent Phase Control detects the motor current phase and feeds back the information for auto lead angle control. When a motor application has a sensor, the phase of the Hall signal is automatically adjusted to match that of the motor drive current.
High efficiency is achieved regardless of the rpm, load torque and power supply voltage of a motor. Intelligent Phase Control also helps reduce the number of external parts necessary for lead angle adjustment.
Example: At 3,000 rpm, Intelligent Phase Control reduces supply current by approx. 10%, compared with the conventional fixed lead angle control (benchmarked by Toshiba).
Reduces the number of external components necessary for lead angle control and eliminates the need for any programming according to the changing operating states of a motor
Motor Efficiency | Ease of Programming | Support for Various Types of Motors | Part Count | Drawback | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Fixed lead angle control | Poor | Poor | Poor | Moderate | Changes in the rpm of a motor make the adjustment point shift, making it impossible to achieve optimal efficiency. Lead angle must be adjusted for each type of motor. |
Auto lead angle control using conventional technology | Moderate | Moderate | Moderate | Poor | |
