USB Type-C® Charger Line Applications

The USB Power Delivery (USB PD) standard, designed for electronic devices requiring higher power supplies, can deliver power from 15W (5V/3A) up to a maximum of 100W (20V/5A). It includes a role swap function that allows the power supply side and the power receiving side to be switched. USB charging devices are required to support bidirectional power supplies in order to handle both power supply and power reception. This N-channel common-drain MOSFET achieves low on-resistance with a small mounting area, avoiding heat generation issues due to high currents, and supports bidirectional power supplies.

Power Multiplexer Circuit

By combining this common-drain MOSFET with our MOSFET driver IC TCK42xG series, it is possible to configure a load switch circuit with reverse current blocking functionality or a power multiplexer circuit that can switch between separate inputs with either Make-Before-Break (MBB) or Break-Before-Make (BBM). We have released a reference design, [Power Multiplexer Circuit Using Common-Drain MOSFET], which can help shorten the design and product development cycles.
