Example of use

A linear image sensor scan objects in a line-by-line fashion. It is suitable for scanning moving objects, such as objects on a conveyor.
The linear image sensor can take object color, shape, size or distance information by optical technology. It can be used in automated optical inspection machines, sorting machines, and other electronic imaging devices.

The difference between a linear image sensor and an area image sensor

A linear image sensor has the following features, and it is suitable for a variety of applications.

Linear image sensor

A line scan camera scans objects in a line-by-line fashion. They are suitable for web inspection, and inspection where the object is constantly moving.
Line Scan Cameras have a high resolution scanning ability.

Area image sensor

An area scan camera has to adjust the image boundary of every one-shot scan.

Example of linear image sensor usage

Defects/ Foreign objects detection

A line scan camera scans moving objects on a conveyor, and detects failures by color, shape, size, appearance or contamination.

Defects/Foreign objects detection on rotating objects

A line scan camera scans objects in a line-by-line fashion. It is suitable for rotating cylindrical object scanning.

Falling object inspection

A line scan camera scans falling objects such as grains, beans or pelleted plastics.
By detecting the object color, shape, size, appearance or contamination, the failed objects can be sorted by air gun.

Edge detection

A line scan camera monitors the edges of an object and detects extrusions or defects.

Concentration detection

A linear image sensor measures the concentration of a sample by using its refractive index.
