Benefits and Applications of Toshiba PFC Control ICs

CRM PFC Control IC: TB6819AFG

The PFC control IC has a Brown out protection within in addition to the basic function.
When the MULT terminal voltage falls, the IC becomes a stand-by mode and contributes to the standby power requirement cutback of the system.

Purposes of PFC Control

Reducing harmonic current

The IC controls AC input current as the AC input voltage and the capacitor charging current are similar.
It is camouflaging this as the load seems to be " resistance " for the AC electric power system.
Also, it gets to lose the rush of the capacitor charging current which generates a higher harmonic.

This figure shows an example of using PFC Control ICs.
(Application Example)
This figure shows an example of current waveforms before and after harmonic current reduction.

Power-saving

This figure shows how power reduction is achieved with PFC control.
  • Improves the power factor by reducing the harmonic content of a current.
    Stabilizes the AC input.
  • Stabilizes the PFC current.
Enables a power supply circuit to keep a constant supply of a nearly perfect sinusoidal current.
CRM Critical Conduction Mode (TB6819AFG)
・Suitable for power levels below 200 W
・Relatively simple circuit
