Toshiba Corporation’s Storage & Electronic Devices Solutions Company today announced the launch of the TCB502HQ, a 4-channel power amplifier IC that detects output offset voltage that is a factor in speaker burnout. Mass production is scheduled to start in December 2016.
To respond to growing demand for superior sound quality of car audio, the new IC integrates a current-feedback system of the type adopted in high-end hi-fi audio. This prevents sound quality degradation at wide bandwidths and offers consistent sound quality, considering overtone of musical instruments or human voice.
The new IC also integrates a newly developed, full-time offset detection circuit. It detects offsets generated at the output stage even during playback and contributes to reduction of field failures, thus helping ensure high reliability.

The engine with an idle reduction system is shut down when the vehicle stops, causing the battery voltage to drop instantaneously. The new power amplifier reduces the minimum operation voltage from 8 V to 6 V, and thereby realizes stable amplifier operation, making it possible to prevent sound loss and noise in car audio.
"TCB001HQ" improves noise tolerance with a newly developed filter circuit, and minimizes the influence of cell phone radio waves on the sound. Reinforced protection circuits realize high reliability.

"TCB501HQ" integrates a newly developed, full-time offset detection circuit. Conventional offset detection during sound reproduction is difficult.It detects output DC offset voltage caused by leakage from the input capacitor and other sources, even during sound reproduction, and prevents speaker burnout.
It also integrates a current-feedback system of the type adopted in high-end hi-fi audio. This prevents sound quality degradation at wide bandwidths and offers consistent sound quality.

HEVs and EVs operating in all-electric mode without combustion engine run quietly, and they increasingly are being equipped with electric vehicle warning sound systems that simulate engine sound, so that pedestrians can recognize their approaching. The “TB2909FNG” guarantees operation at up to 110°C, allowing use in electric vehicle warning sound system where stable operation at high temperature is required. The IC also integrates a wide range of abnormality detection functions and protection circuits, contributing to the safety and simplification of automotive systems.
