Added High-Voltage (Zener Voltage 56V to 75V) Products to the Lineup of Zener Diodes for Surge Protection of Power Lines Help to Improve Equipment Reliability

Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation ("Toshiba") has expanded its lineup by adding four new products of "CUZ56V", "CUZ62V", "CUZ68V" and "CUZ75V" to CUZ series of Zener diodes, which protect semiconductor devices and equipment power supply lines from switching surges and electrostatic discharge (ESD). These products have Zener voltages of 56V, 62V, 68V, and 75V, respectively.

In recent years, the adoption of 48V power supplies has been increasing in network equipment, industrial equipment, and datacenters to improve power supply efficiency. To support protection in such high-voltage systems, Toshiba has developed these new products.

The new products are Zener diodes that protect semiconductor devices from long pulse width switching surges and induced lightning surges in the order of microseconds to milliseconds and overvoltage with characteristics close to DC. With Zener voltages ranging from 56V to 75V, they are suitable for protecting high-voltage power supply lines such as 48V. The package adopted is SOD-323 (USC), which emphasizes mounting compatibility within the industry. Including existing products, Toshiba offers a lineup of 24 products covering 5.6V to 75V, helping to improve reliability across a wide range of applications.

In addition, Toshiba is developing "CUHZ56V," "CUHZ62V," "CUHZ68V," and "CUHZ75V" which adopt the high-power dissipation type SOD-323HE (US2H) package.

Toshiba will continue to expand its lineup of protection Zener diodes to help improve the reliability of electronic equipment.

Features

  1. Surge protection from switching surges and overvoltage with long pulse width and characteristics close to DC
  2. Support for high-voltage power lines: VZ (typ.) =56V to 75V
  3. SOD-323 (USC) package emphasizing mounting compatibility

Features Explanation

1. Surge protection from switching surges and overvoltage with long pulse width and characteristics close to DC

Figure 1. Application areas of ESD protection diodes and Zener diodes suitable for overvoltage protection

The new products can protect not only against transient overvoltage pulses, but also against overvoltage with long pulse width and characteristics close to DC, which are difficult for ESD protection diodes to handle.

2. Support for high-voltage power lines: Vz (typ.) =56V to 75V

The voltage lineup of Toshiba's existing Zener diodes for protection ranges from 5.6V to 51V. Recently, there has been a trend toward increasing power supply voltages in consumer and industrial equipment to improve efficiency. This lineup expansion can also support higher voltages of 48V and above.

3. SOD-323 (USC) package emphasizing mounting compatibility

Figure 2. Package dimension diagram of SOD-323 (USC)

The package dimensions are small at 2.5×1.25×0.9mm (typ.), contributing to space-saving on circuit boards.
It also offers compatibility with existing SOD-323 mounting environments.

Applications

  • Industrial equipment (OA equipment, power supplies, etc.)
  • Consumer equipment (home appliances, power supplies, etc.)
