Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation ("Toshiba") has added "TB67H450AFTG" to its lineup of general-purpose brushed DC motor driver ICs, which support a wide operating voltage range. The new product achieves miniaturization by adopting a small package. It is a smaller variant of the existing product "TB67H450AFNG" while maintaining motor output voltage and current ratings of 50V/3.5A[1]. The operating range of the motor power supply voltage is from 4.5V to 44V.
In recent years, the miniaturization of motor driver ICs has become increasingly important in battery-powered devices (robot cleaner, etc.), USB-powered devices (USB fan, etc.), home appliances, OA equipment, and financial equipment, all of which are designed to deliver multifunctionality within limited space. This miniaturization enhances design flexibility and contributes to the downsizing of circuit boards.
The new product, TB67H450AFTG, uses a VQFN16 package with 3×3mm (typ.), which reduces the mounting area by approximately 70% compared to the HSOP8 package of the existing product, TB67H450AFNG. Even within limited board space, flexible design is possible, contributing to the miniaturization of circuit boards. In addition, the VQFN16 package features an exposed thermal pad, achieving both enhanced heat dissipation and a small size package.
Supporting a motor power supply voltage from 4.5V to 44V, the TB67H450AFTG is suitable for a wide range of applications—from 5V USB-powered devices to home appliances, OA equipment, and financial equipment that require higher voltage operation. It also includes an automatic transition from stop mode to standby mode, turning off the internal regulator to meet the growing demand for low power consumption across various applications. This greatly reduces current consumption in standby mode and contributes to power savings in home appliances and OA equipment, as well as improved battery life in mobile devices.
Toshiba will continue to expand its lineup of brushed DC motor driver ICs to meet market requirements.
