This test is not a direct lightning test, but a test that models the surge voltage/current induced in the vicinity by the effects of a lightning strike. It also includes opening and closing surges due to switching in the power system (capacitor switching, power distribution system on/off, load changes, short circuits, etc.).
ESD surge specified in IEC61000-4-2 is a problem in almost all electronic equipment. However, what is modeled in IEC61000-4-5 poses problems for communication lines, power lines and control lines of industrial equipment, and inductive loads.
This is because these surges are often caused mainly by inductance.
IEC610004-5 provides models to simulate these surges so you can check if your equipment can withstand them.
There are 5 levels of classes, and the 5 levels of classes (applied voltage: 25V to 4kV) are defined according to the equipment installation location (surge control level).
We provide IEC61000-4-5 compliant devices as devices for these countermeasures.
