Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation ("Toshiba") has launched 1-channel H-bridge drivers[1] “TB67H453FNG and TB67H453FTG” with a current monitoring function for brushed DC motor control. The new products feature a motor output voltage rating of 50V and a motor output current rating of 3.5A. The packages are “TB67H453FNG” with HTSSOP16 and “TB67H453FTG” with VQFN16, both featuring an exposed thermal pad for enhanced heat dissipation.
In recent years, a wide variety of motors have been used in consumer equipment, from large, high-output, high-torque motors to small, low-output, power-saving motors. A common requirement for these motors is improved efficiency through control. Previously, H-bridge drivers have monitored the current flowing through the load and have fed back to the control inside the H-bridge driver for efficient motor control. To further enhance efficiency, the new products integrate a current monitoring function that feeds back a signal corresponding to the load current to CPUs and microcontrollers. This enables CPU and microcontrollers to monitor the current flowing through the load in real time. By optimizing the control signals sent to the H-bridge driver according to the load and driving conditions, motor control can be more efficient.
Additionally, the new H-bridge drivers feature a half-bridge independent control mode, enabling one H-bridge to be controlled as two half-bridges. This functionality extends their application beyond motors to include devices such as smart meters, in addition to brushed DC motors.
Note:
[1] It is called because the shape of the output circuit resembles the letter "H"
The product is equipped with a current monitoring function that folds back the current flowing through MOSFET inside at a fixed ratio and outputs it to the outside. By outputting a current proportional to the load current from ISENSE pin and externally attaching a current-voltage converter resistor (RISENSE), a voltage corresponding to the load current can be output to a microcontroller. This enables more efficient control of brushed DC motors. For example, feedback control is applied from a microcontroller to an H-bridge driver in real-time in response to load-related changes.
The motor power supply (VM) range of new products support from 4.5V to 44V. This enables a wide range of applications from battery-powered to commercial power source-powered applications for consumer/industrial equipment.
By suppressing internal current consumption when SLEEP mode is set, standby power is reduced, contributing to longer operating times in battery-powered applications.
